# Packaging Placement Proofs on a Wide Format Dye Sublimation Printer

Before sending a carton, case or a d/c box to the press, someone must verify that the barcode isn't placed on a fold, the logo is visible above the glue flap, and the ingredient panel isn't hidden by the seal. That check calls for a full-size print you can cut out, fold up, and hold.

## What a Placement Proof Verifies?

A placement proof, also called a layout proof, verifies image positioning and dimensions against a dieline before production begins. Text, logos, barcodes, seal areas, tear strips, and legal copy all get checked against the structure of the package itself.

The proof prints flat, adhered onto corrugated, is cut out, then folded or assembled. From there the operator can check a short list of issues: copy crossing a score line, a barcode landing on a crease, artwork running past the trim, or a panel that reads upside down once the box is formed and glued.

### Why Placement Proofs Don't Need Color Matching?

Placement proofing is not contract proofing. A contract proof commits to brand color. A placement proof commits to position and dimension.

The proof is still printed in color. If one panel is yellow and the next is red, the operator should see distinct yellow and red on each. It doesn't need to match the exact shade from the brand guide, just enough color to differentiate the panels and verify each one is correctly placed.
